Every month, the Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging offers more than 50 activities ranging from fitness, learning, arts, recreation, and events. Here’s an overview of the action here at Four Pointes. We also offer some of our great classes in convenient locations throughout northeast Ottawa County. Contact us for more information!

 

FITNESS

Conditioning with Confidence

A low-impact beginning seated exercise program to improve range of motion, flexibility, balance, and strength. Great for those just starting to develop their fitness routine!

Tai Chi

An ancient system of blending, breathing, and movement to improve your balance and coordination. Introduction and advanced level Tai Chi are available.

Gentle Chair Yoga

This gentle seated class is accessible to all fitness levels. Class works with breath and movement, easier and modified postures, body awareness, gentle stretching and strengthening, and relaxation.

Gentle Mat Yoga

A ‘slow-flow’ yoga class based on the floor. Breath, movement, and stretching are the primary focus of this class. Does require getting up and down from floor. Moderate impact level. Offered in the northeast region. 

Chair Aerobics

An energetic 30-minute low impact seated aerobic class great for all fitness levels. Enjoy exercises designed to improve your flexibility, range of motion, strength and aerobic endurance.

Stretch + Tone

A low impact seated fitness class that develops strength, flexibility, muscle tone and endurance. All fitness levels welcome. Offered in the northeast region. Advanced Stretch + Tone is available for a more challenging experience.

Line Dancing

Fun and  fitness collide in this dance class covering the techniques of line dancing with the goal of a more flexible and fit body. Beginning classes also offered.

Tap Dancing

Balance, coordination, and toning come together in this fun dance class. Break out your tap shoes! Beginners welcomed.

Zumba

An energetic, moderate-impact workout using dance and rhythm to improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Come join the party!

Ping Pong

All physical abilities are able to participate in this activity that supports hand-eye coordination, agility and fun! Beginners welcomed!

Gentle Pilates

An exercise class based on the floor that engages the mind and body. A balance and holistic blend of strength training, breathing techniques and flexibility works to improve overall fitness. Does require getting up and down from floor. Moderate impact level.

BOSU Balance & Sculpt 

These 30-minute classes are sure to get your heart pumping while focusing on toning, strengthening, and improving balance using state of the art BOSU Trainer. Moderate impact level.

TABATA

This 30-minute high intensity interval training class will get your heart pumping and leave you with time in your day. High impact level.

On the Ball

Strengthen and condition muscles while actively working to improve overall balance and cardiovascular wellness utilizing an exercise stability ball. Exercise balls are provided. Moderate impact level.

Cardio Drumming

A group exercise class with mind and body benefits. The workout uses a variety of beats and choreography exercises incorporating an exercise ball and drumming sticks. All equipment is provided. Moderate impact level. Offered in the northeast region.

Beginning Exercise Drumming

A slower, seated, low-impact exercise drumming class benefiting the mind and body. Also incorporates the use of an exercise ball and drumming sticks. Equipment provided. Great for beginners! All fitness levels welcomed.

Happy Hula

A graceful dance wherein you talk with your hands while swaying your hips to the music. Work on building balance and flexibility while having fun! For beginners and experienced dancers alike.

Beginning Step-Aerobics

A low-impact step aerobics class focused on cardiovascular wellness by ‘stepping’ in rhythm. The class does not use a raised platform. Instead the routine has been modified to use the floor as the ‘stepping platform’. All fitness levels welcomed, only offered in the ‘northeast’ region.

LEARNING

Book Club

Join this monthly discussion and the book for the following month will be provided.

Einstein U

Nancy Buchanan shares her insights about various topics that impact our everyday world. You’ll see things from a whole new perspective after hearing her presentations!

Memory Writers

Take time once a month to come and get comfortable writing the stories of your life. Tricia McDonald guides you through the process. You will amaze yourself!

Knitter and Crochet Circle

Bring your knitting or crochet project and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow ‘crafters’.

Build It Fly It

Join these model enthusiasts as they build a fabulous radio-controlled airplanes. The object is to have fun building a plane (work together on the instructor’s model or bring your own), then take it out and fly it! 

Coffee Klatsch

Just like the old days in the neighborhood. Enjoy chatting with friends, old and new, over a cup of coffee or tea. Discussion topics vary with interest.

Spanish

A Spanish language and culture course. Offered seasonally with varying levels.

Technology Assistance

Your opportunity for individualized assistance with various things including using your devise, social media, or the internet. 

 

ARTS

Drawing With Confidence

Patty Warner leads you through just what she says: “Drawing with Confidence!” Here is your opportunity to have fun, learn something about how you look at the world and get it on paper. Supply list available in the art studio. 

Lessons in Watercolor

An experienced instructor leads varying levels with a new and exciting project each session. Beginner and advanced classes offered. 

Beginning Acrylics

An enjoyable class whether it is your first time putting paint on a canvas or you are an experienced painter! A skilled instructor will lead you step by step through your own work of art. Offered in the northeast region.   

One Stroke Painting

Using the Donna Dewberry method, the instructor expertly leads and inspires this affordable art class. No reservation necessary. Beginners fit right in! Supplies are included in the class fee.

Art With Joy

Get creative and engage with other artists during this open art studio. Whether it’s your first time or you are a veteran painter, our instructor can help you from start to finish on any project. Share with other artists and get helpful tips and tricks!

Wood Carvers

This class is for any ability level while offering many forms of woodcarving. Come and learn to carve or spend time with others who enjoy the craft.

Quilting & Crochet

Monthly and weekly projects led by an experienced instructor. Create a gift or something beautiful for yourself. Beginners and advanced crafters welcomed. 

Open Craft Studio

All crafters welcome! Bring a sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, ect. project and receive feedback from other crafters and an experienced instructor! 

Ukulele Club

For experienced and beginners alike! Each month the group meets to work on new music. Ukuleles are not provided. Please bring your own. 

 

RECREATION

Rummikub, Mah Jongg, Bridge, Euchre, Bingo, Hand & Foot, Pinochle, Shuffleboard, Bingo, Billiards

*Monthly Bingo offered in the northeast region.

 

EVENTS

Foxy Ladies Lunch

These Red Hatters meet monthly for lunch (usually a Wednesday) and make the rounds of local eateries wearing their Red Hat finery. New members are always welcome!

Monthly Birthday Lunch

Join us for entertainment, a nice lunch, drawings, and time to celebrate the month’s birthdays with friends, old and new. Pre-paid reservation required.

Join instructor Kathy for a fun high impact TABATA workout where you are sure to break a sweat. For this workout you will need to be near a counter top, wall, chair, or another stable surface to hold onto just in case. Small hand weights or canned goods are optional =). Make sure your space is free of clutter and safe for exercising. Remember when working out at home-never push yourself past your limit, take frequent breaks (it is okay to stop and start the video!), stay hydrated and HAVE FUN!
